Growth & Nature

My sculptural lamps are rooted in nature. The land and water of our shared Earth have always been my place of wonder and discovery. With each piece I create I want to share this and pass on this joy.

Biophilic Design — Bringing nature into our homes — is a core principle in my work. It's something I've always aspired to, but only recently discovered the term for it.

Adaptability — In my creation process, often "Plan B" or "Make Lemonade from Lemons" comes into play. This is especially true when I use salvaged materials, or when a rock breaks while drilling. I have clients that go right to my plan B or C pieces.

Tools & Resources — Patience, Trial and Error, scribing tools, Gene's old bandsaw, assorted power grinders, rasps and rifflers, diamond blades, and grinders for cutting and flattening stones. Friends with rock piles. Patience, Lemonade recipes, Friends.

Inspiration

Memories & Movement

Sometimes I begin a piece with a memory that I want to share — like stacking stones with my grandkids, walking a distant beach, coming across a tree growing out of rocks, or even a burned-out stump. As in nature, movement and flow are always involved.
